Putting Out Better Content with Raquel Borras

Today I had the pleasure of speaking with the Founder and Chief Excitement Officer of True To You Branding, Raquel Borras. True To You Branding helps people make a brand for themselves that promotes being “true to you.” Raquel previously worked for a builder and mortgage company before starting her own business in January of 2020.

Let’s dive into Raquel’s story of how being true to yourself can help you be more confident in achieving your goals.

Things you will learn in this episode:

[00:01 – 06:52] Opening Segment

Some people admit they’re just not cut out for 9-5 jobs. Even though she was a good worker and she moved up the ladder in her past jobs, Raquel admits that she’s also one of those people. She feels that she has always been a very creative person. This also translated to how she used LinkedIn to boost her social media engagement, and later on, start her own business on social media branding and making better social media content.

[06:53 – 15:14] How did working a 9 to 5 job while putting out content work out for you?

Do you have a LinkedIn account? Have you already figured out the best way to use it? If you feel that you haven’t really yet, listen to Raquel’s advice: “People love when you promote other people.” In this segment, she tells us that when she was still working her 9-5 job, she used to attend lots of events. She then bugs her fellow attendees to take group photos with her so she can promote the event as well as the people she was with on her LinkedIn account. People were a little annoyed at first while she was bugging them to take photos with her, but later on, they were all thankful when they also got engagement and free publicity because of her posts.

Raquel also shares what she’d rather do if she’s made to choose between working on her weaknesses to make them strengths or just focus on doing what she’s good at. “I know what I’m good at, I enjoy it, so why not continue doing it?” she says.

As the engagement in her accounts grew and grew, she then started getting invites to several events just so she can post about and promote them, which later on, paved the way for her to start her own business on social media branding.

[15:15 – 25:59] Putting Out Better Content

So how exactly do you improve your content? It all boils down to one valuable tip: be authentic. “If you know a person is being them, being authentic, that’s the key,” she shares. Make sure to listen closely too to our tips on making authentic content that more people can relate to!

[26:00 – 32:27] Be Your Own Boss

As I’ve asked every guest on the show, I also asked Raquel how she transitioned from working 9-5 to being a full-time entrepreneur. In her case, she felt as if everything was starting to align and point her in this direction so she just really took the leap of faith. She started her business January this year. Even though it’s not really the best time for businesses since there’s a pandemic, Raquel just learned to shift and adapt her business model. After all, we just really have to take the risk, think out of the box, and just really have the right mindset.

[32:28 – 38:09] The FOCUS FIVE Segment

The FOCUS FIVE are five questions I ask every guest on my show. Keep on listening to find out what book Raquel gifts most often; who would she talk to if she can get an hour of any person living or dead, and why; that one thing she believes but most people will disagree with; her morning routine; and lastly, where are the best places we can connect with her online. Tweetable Quotes:

“I naturally realized how important it was that your personality also has to coincide with your business.” – Raquel Borras

“The only way to get good is to start and suck at it for a little while.” – Hans Struzyna

“Nobody wants to see perfection. It’s funny how everyone thinks that people want to see perfection, and everyone thinks you need to be a certain way. But then everyone else is thinking the same thing as you are, so why are we all caught up in thinking something that’s not even a thing.” – Raquel Borras
