Another Way To Play

Interview Rundown

Thank you so much for agreeing to be a guest on the show. I am really excited to have you on. Please take a few minutes to review this rundown and think through a few of these questions before we start recording.

Bio and Background Introduction (5-7 minutes)

I will be recording an introduction to your episode separately so you don’t have to restate the bio you sent me. I would like to build context for the listeners about where you came from and how you started your journey.

Here are a few questions to get your gears turning:

  • How did you do in school?
  • What kinds of activities did you participate in?
  • What was your home life like?
  • What interests did you have?

The Meat of the Interview (15-22 minutes)

Once we’ve built context, we will transition into your story. The meat of the interview will come from the lessons you learned and experiences you had that got you to where you are today.

Specifically, how you bridged the gap between where you started and where you are now.

Here are a few questions that may help you with this section:

  • When thinking back to your early years, what do you feel like set you apart from those around you?
  • Given the opportunity to do it again, what would you do differently or not, and why?
  •  Take us back to the one thing that you did early in your career/journey that most people thought was unconventional and other tried to talk you out of, but you are glad you did
  • How important has mentorship been in your journey?
  • When did you realize there was another way to play? Was there a moment when you consciously realized that you could take your life and carrier to another level that didn’t involve the topical path? What was that process like and how did you think through it?
  • What is the biggest success myth you have ever heard?
  • How do you know it’s a myth?
  • How do you push out of your comfort zone and why?
  • What role has authenticity/vulnerability played in your journey?
  • How do you define freedom?
  • Tell me about ways you control your environment for success.
  • Do you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert? How has that affected you (+\-) in your life?
  • Describe the importance (or lack there of) with following your passion in business.
  • Do you believe that things happen to you or for you and why?
  • Tell us about a “failure” you have experienced and what you learned from it.
  • How do you draw the line between persistence and pestering?

Wrap Up (2-3 minutes)

Here are a few questions that may help you with this section:

  • If someone just tuned in and all they heard was the next 30 seconds, what is the one piece of advice you would want to leave them with?
  • If you could only have one of the following traits, what would it be and why?
  • What is your best advice for someone looking to level up their game and play at the next level in the next 12 months?

“Focus Five” (3-5 minutes)

These are the same five questions that I ask every guest on every episode and this is how we wrap up the interview. I’m excited to hear your answers

Final 5 questions to wrap up the interview:

  • What book have you gift or recommend most often/recently?
  • If you could get an hour of someones time (past or present) and ask as many questions as you wanted, who would it be? And why?
  • What is one thing that you believe that most people would disagree with you on?
  • Give us a glimpse of your morning routine (or day in the life).
  • What is the best place online where we’ll find you the most?

Thank you so much and I can't wait to record with you!
This is going to be fun!
