[00:01 – 09:29] Opening Segment
My guest for today, Justin Breen, has two superpowers: getting people on the news on the media level and connecting people on a global level. He previously worked as a journalist for 20 years but he’s always had the mindset of an entrepreneur. In 2017, when his managers cut his salary in half, he decided to finally start his own business—his PR firm BrEpic.
Justin has truly grown BrEpic to obviously be epic but things weren’t always great for him. He experienced tons of rejections during the first few months that he’s starting his business. However, according to Justin, almost every entrepreneur experiences this anyway. What separates the ones who turned out to be successful from those who did not is the former did not give up. Successful entrepreneurs never let rejections stop them.
Fast forward to present, Justin is founder and CEO of a successful business and has tens of thousands of other visionary entrepreneurs in his network as well. Today, we talk a lot about mindset—what he says separate all successful entrepreneurs from the rest.
[09:30- 13:09] Bridging the Gap
People with an entrepreneur mindset are wired differently from people with an employee mindset. The former may find school boring, especially if they don’t feel that they’re learning what they really need to learn. However, what really sets them apart, Justin says, is the way they handle anxiety, rejection, and the risk of bankruptcy, among others. When faced with these challenges, successful entrepreneurs will always have an eagerness to come up with new ideas and strategies.
With the Covid season looking like it’s not going to be over just yet, more and more people are being forced to think like an entrepreneur and start their own businesses. If you’re one of those people too, keep on listening as Justin shares what entrepreneurs should do for their businesses thrive even during the pandemic.
[13:10- 26:59] The Abundance Entrepreneurial Mindset
Not all entrepreneurs have the same mindset. During this pandemic season, you’ll hear a lot of entrepreneurs doing a budget cut and operating on a scarcity mindset. On the other hand, there are also the real visionary entrepreneurs who are investing more and pivoting like crazy, according to Justin.
More than infrastructures, these visionary entrepreneurs are investing in relationships, in their brand, in connectivity. These entrepreneurs are dominating, but you’re probably wondering, how does building relationships put food on the table exactly? There are four things you need to do, Justin says:
- Have a high price point
- Try to lower your overhead
- Leverage your network on a global level
- Create endless opportunities for your network and yourself
Doing these four and having the right mindset will bring you much closer to success. Are you ready to start today?
[27:00- 33:29] The Entrepreneurial Journalist Perspective
With the pandemic and all the negative things that’s happening this year, I asked Justin what he thinks about going on a media diet. Being a journalist who primarily writes about positive news, how does he stay positive during these times? How do we stay grounded in reality without being consumed by negativity?
What Justin says he does can truly make a difference if we also start doing it every day. According to him, for the first few hours of the day, he only watches positive news and listens to podcasts about only positive things. It may just be for a couple of hours, but it will already be powerful enough to set the tone for the rest of the day. With all that’s happening around us, this little change with how we start our day may be all what we need to do to have a more positive perspective and make a difference in our lives and in our business.
[33:30 – 39:17] The FOCUS FIVE Segment
The FOCUS FIVE are five questions I ask every guest on my show. Keep on listening to find out what book Justin gifts most often; who would he talk to if he can get an hour of any person living or dead, from the past or the present, and why; that one thing he believes but most people will disagree with; his morning routine; and lastly, where are the best places we can connect with him online.
