I had the pleasure of speaking with the founder of Ellishammond.com and Kingdomcapitalists.co, Ellis Hammond. Ellis started his journey as a pastor and later on, developed a desire to leverage business to support growing his ministry. Now, he remains faithful to this mission and helps other faithful Christians launch into the world of ministry and business.
Let’s jump into Ellis’ story and find out how one’s religious perspective creates an impact on building businesses and investments.
Things you will learn in this episode:
[00:01 – 05:35] Opening Segment
I start this segment with an overview of all the valuable pieces of advice one can get from Ellis Hammond—regardless if one is a faith-based entrepreneur or not—to grow his or her business and investments. Next, Ellis briefly tells us how he got into real estate investing and that the ability to create wealth is a gift.
[05:36 – 17:19] Religious Perspective on Business Ethics
There’s a stigma around wanting to earn a lot of money in a lot of faith-based communities. In this part, Ellis talks about how he was able to shift away from this mindset. “Money can’t be bad if people who are trying to do really good things with their life can use it to move forward with their mission, he says.” He gives us a fantastic advice on how to be committed to building wealth, especially for Christians who hear a lot of misconceptions and who risk being stigmatized themselves. Lastly, if you want to see the person that you’re going to be in five years, make sure to catch his advice on why you should read books, hang-out with the right friends, and get something that will make you uncomfortable on your ears!
[17:20 – 22:12] How to Scale Real Estate Investment to Make Larger Assets
Earlier in this episode, Ellis and I talked about the first $10M deal that he bought—a 144-unit apartment. You probably did not expect to hear this, but in this segment, he talks about how getting this 144-unit apartment made life so much easier for him than if it were a 10-unit apartment. Since they went with a bigger deal, they were able to find an expert partner whom they can rely on for a lot of things. Do you also want to be inspired to go for larger assets and bigger business deals? Make sure to listen to Ellis’ tips!
[22:13 – 34:39] Applying Right Perspective, Value, and Faith in the Entrepreneurial World
Are you encountering challenges on how to translate what you’ve previously done in your career to the new career or business path that you’re about to take? Ellis was not spared from this too! As he shares, six months ago, he can’t imagine that people will be paying thousands of dollars to be part of their business mastermind community! But he also has this inspirational words to share: “those who are really successful are those who realize that the most fun part is the journey.” As a bonus question, Ellis also answers how he handles situations when he has to raise rent or evict a tenant, after having advertised himself as a person of faith.
[34:40 – 41:03] The FOCUS FIVE Segment
The FOCUS FIVE are five questions I ask every guest on my show. Keep on listening to find out 1) what book Ellis gifts most often, 2) Who would he talk to if he can get an hour of any person living or dead, and why, 3) That one thing he believes but most people will disagree with, 4) his morning routine, and lastly, 5) Where are the best places we can connect with him online. See the links below for Ellis’ social media links!
